The Critical Gamer: A Mobile App for Media Literacy & Critical Thinking

We live in a world where fake news and misinformation spread rapidly and often go unnoticed. Every day, we encounter content generated by artificial intelligence that appears credible—yet our most powerful tool to filter these is critical thinking.

To help young people navigate the digital space with greater confidence and awareness, we launched The Critical Gamer project. At the heart of the initiative is the development of a mobile application that strengthens media literacy and critical thinking skills through play-based learning.

The project is supported by the Erasmus+ KA220-YOU program and co-funded by the European Union. It is being developed by a professional consortium of three countries: Impact Games (Slovakia), Fakescape (Czech Republic), and Enabler Ltd., the creators of MotiMore (Hungary). The app will be available from 2025 on Motimore.com, Gamifactory.eu, and major mobile platforms.

🕹️ What are we developing?

Within The Critical Gamer project, we are designing an interactive mobile game where players will analyze digital content, perform fact-checking, and identify misinformation in scenarios based on real-life situations. Through exciting gameplay and engaging storytelling, users will:

✅ Spot fake news and disinformation
✅ Evaluate sources and media credibility
✅ Understand the impact of digital manipulation
✅ Strengthen critical thinking and decision-making skills

The app is designed for young people aged 13–30, as well as educators and youth workers who want to build media literacy skills in an accessible and engaging way.

The application is expected to launch in 2025, and will be available for free via Motimore.com, Gamifactory.eu, Google Play, and the App Store. As part of the project, educators and youth workers will also receive training materials and workshops to help integrate the game into their educational programs.
