How can we teach fact-checking and critical thinking in schools? (Free training for teachers)<\/strong><\/p>\n

A joint project between MotiMore and ELTE (E\u00f6tv\u00f6s L\u00f3r\u00e1nd University) TINLAB has been completed \u2013 a collaboration focused on developing fact-checking and critical thinking skills. As part of the project, training programs and methodological materials were created to help both teachers and students navigate the world of information more consciously. The professional background of the development was provided by a research group involved through ELTE TINLAB, led by PhD Mikl\u00f3s Lehmann.<\/p>\n

ON FACT-CHECKING AND DEVELOPING CRITICAL THINKING<\/strong><\/p>\n

Today, fact-checking is no longer just a journalistic skill, but a fundamental competence of everyday digital citizenship. Teachers play a key role in enabling young people to distinguish reliable information from disinformation, recognize manipulation techniques, and form their own opinions consciously through critical thinking.<\/p>\n

This online training provides (and has provided) support by offering participating teachers a clear, practical, and immediately applicable toolkit for teaching fact-checking. This includes concrete methodological suggestions, task ideas, and classroom-ready tools adaptable to different age groups. Our goal is to enable teachers to confidently integrate elements of critical media literacy and fact-checking into everyday teaching practice\u2014whether in homeroom classes or within subjects such as history, Hungarian language and literature, digital culture, or social studies.<\/p>\n

As part of the program, a 4-module online learning material was developed, covering topics such as fake news, handling manipulation and misinformation, and fostering more conscious online behavior.<\/p>\n

A total of 608 people registered for the online course. Although the program is not accredited, participants receive a certificate. The webinars related to the topic also attracted significant interest, with more than 120 participants joining these sessions.<\/p>\n
