MotiMore, within the framework of an international Erasmus+ collaboration, developed the Money Moomins (Pénzmumusok) board game in partnership with Impact Games and Mladý Podnikavec. The game aims to develop the financial awareness of disadvantaged students and young learners who are only beginning to explore financial topics, using game-based pedagogical tools.
Within the framework of the project, the following were created:
- Money Moomins board game – a decision-based, situational game in which students encounter financial dilemmas that model real-life adult situations.
- Money Moomins training booklet (methodological guide) – a pedagogical support material containing practice-oriented lesson plans and suggestions for classroom processing.
- Trainings and webinars – professional events supporting the classroom integration of the game and its methodological application.
During the board game, students take on the roles of different characters and solve unexpected financial situations and decision-making scenarios, weighing opportunities and risks according to their own goals and interests. The game is particularly helpful for those who have limited prior financial experience and are encountering situations involving conscious planning, budgeting, or risk assessment for the first time.
Regarding the Money Moomins project:
-
More than 150 students participated in pilot sessions and tested the game.
-
110 educators joined the professional program.
-
More than 50 physical board games were distributed to institutions.
-
Additional interested participants received the game in a print-and-play version.
-
4 webinars were organized where we presented the concept of the game and introduced 4 concrete training outlines, as well as short, simple-to-apply, practical game elements to the participating educators.
The aim of the methodological guide and the webinars was to ensure that educators would not only receive a tool, but also concrete, immediately usable lesson plans and adaptable methodological solutions that support the development of basic financial competencies among student groups with different levels of prior knowledge.
